- When the cornea is not spherical, but bulges more in one axis than the other like the outer curve of a doughnut (torus), focus and images are distorted.
SOLUTION: Corrective lenses have a slight cylindrical shape, counter-orientated to the eye's bulge. Disposable Toric contact lenses are now available.
